The Franklin Amateur Swim Team (FAST) is a recreation summer youth swim league that serves, on average, 150 Macon County children. The cost to be part of the team is only $90, which includes 1.5 – 2 hours of instruction, 3-4 per week, for 9-10 weeks each summer. That cost equates to about $1 per hour/per child for quality swimming instruction, led by Franklin High School swim coaches Dwain and Dina Picou. These youth range from ages 5-18 and come from different socio-economic and diverse backgrounds.
As with most activities, some youth stand out in the sport, and Macon County is proud to have some of the top swimmers in the entire Mountain Swim League each year. Prior to the pandemic, more than twenty FAST swimmers reached qualifying times to compete in the Southeastern Regional AAU Junior Olympic Competition, and we expect even more to qualify this summer.
